The master conductor Zubin Mehta conducted Damiano Michieletto´s new production of Verdi´s Falstaff, which was broadcast live on Kapitelplatz as part of the Siemens Festival>Nights. Verdi only composed two comical operas, Un giorno di regno at the beginning of his long career and Falstaff at the end, as its crowning glory. Verdi created a comedy, chamber-music-like in its intimacy, which focuses on the amorous adventures of the fat philanderer Falstaff. The unrepentant sinner nurtures the illusion that his excessive body mass is irresistible to the fairer sex. However, the women decide to set a trap for the conceited, preening knight, making a complete fool of him in public.
