Plácido Domingo and Ana María Martínez
Plácido Domingo and Ana María Martínez
In the summer of 2007 Plácido Domingo and Ana María Martínez presented a celebrated concert at the Salzburg Festival which can now be revisited. They dedicated the entire evening to zarzuela, a musical genre highly popular in Spain which was first developed at the Spanish court and which might be defined as a sister to Viennese operetta. Plácido Domingo grew up with zarzuelas, his parents both being famous zarzuela singers. The star himself has restored the popularity of the zarzuela genre during recent years. Domingo’s partner in Salzburg, Ana María Martínez, is a native of Puerto Rico and won Plácido Domingo’s Operalia Vocal Competition in 2005.
