This year the opening ceremony will once again be broadcast live on the video wall on Kapitelplatz at 11 am. The keynote address will be delivered by the “ideal speaker for the centenary”, Julian Nida-Rümelin. The philosopher and author is „one of the outstanding intellectuals of our times” (Markus Hinterhäuser). The title of his speech, “A Humanist Utopia”, creates a direct link with the founding idea of the Salzburg Festival, which began “as a project of peace, in other words, a humanistic utopia, amidst World War I”. “We are delighted that Julian Nida-Rümelin will give the Festival’s opening speech, setting the right tone.” (Helga Rabl-Stadler)
